In the Riverview School District, teachers believe that reading is constructing meaning from text. This belief drives the teacher's practice resulting in readers who interact with the text and use strategies to read in a variety of text. Teachers use instructional strategies and program approaches that ensure student success as a reader. The RSD reading curriculum is aligned with the State of Washington Essential Academic Learning Requirements and Grade Level Expectations.

This Belief/Philosophy Statement is supported by the International Reading Association’s (IRA) statement, “…Honoring Children’s Rights to Excellent Reading Instruction,” which follows:
