Riverview School District Outperforming the State On WASL Tests
Carnation - September 11, 2006 -Riverview School District Assistant Superintendent Dr. Anthony Smith announced today that the Riverview District students outperformed the state in all Reading, Writing, and Math tests, grades 4, 7 and 10 with the exception of Reading 10 where there is only a 1% difference. Dr. Smith comments that "we are very pleased that over 80% of our 10th grade students meet state literacy standards (Reading & Writing) and 60% of our 10th grade students meet state Math standards."
According to the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE), an independent data analysis organization, "Riverview student learning increases, over the past 3 years, are outstanding: 10th grade Reading , a 20% gain, Writing an 11% gain and Math a 13% gain." In its analysis of WASL data for 300 schools this fall, CEE noticed that "Math scores are dropping across the state, yet Riverview students outperformed the state in Math WASL 4, 7 and 10 and showed significant increases in both 7th and 10th grade scores while the state continues to struggle." CEE has worked with the Riverview School District, its district and school leaders, including the school board for the past 5 years in analyzing WASL and other data to improve teaching and learning in schools. "This recognizes our focus and intentionality around quality instruction, materials and community support for student learning" said Dr. Smith.
