Units Target Vocabulary Cluster Grammar Structure
TPR TPR (Total Participatory Response): Students learn commands, classroom objects, days of the week, numbers, clothing, greetings, etc. Students learn 3rd person plural commands and conjugation of verbs "ser" and "tener".
Chapt. 1 Students learn verb gustar, subject pronouns, and definite articles. Students learn conjugation of verb "gustar" and subject pronoun/verb agreement, and the gender of nouns.
Chapt. 2 Students learn classroom materials, bedroom vocabulary, indefinite articles, and "necesitar" and "querer". Students learn conjugation of verbs "necesitar/querer" and regular vs. irregular verbs.
Chapt. 3 Students learn school subject and time-telling vocablulary, and "estar". Students learn conjugation of "estar" and noun/adjective gender and number agreement.
Chapt. 4 Students learn regular "ar" verbs, names of city buildings, and prepositions of location. Students learn to conjugate regular present tense "ar" verbs and when to use "dónde" vs. "adónde".
Chapt.5 Students learn additional "ar" verbs, present indicative "er/ir" verbs, seasons, and date vocabulary. Students learn to conjugate regular present tense "er/ir" verbs, and to use prepositional phrases to modify indirect object pronouns "le" and "les".
Chapt. 6 Student learn family and domestic animal vocabulary, possessive adjectives, personal characteristic adjectives, and verbs related to domestic chores. Student continue to develop their understanding of noun/adjective # and gender agreement, the conjugation of present tense irregular "go" verbs ("hacer", "salir", "poner"), and the use of the "personal a".
Chapt. 7 Students learn telephone conversation, recreational destination, and personal hygiene vocabulary, "querer", "pensar", and reflexive present indicative verbs related to personal hygiene. Students learn the conjugation of stem changing present tense e → ie verbs, verb phrases, reflexive verbs, and "tener" idioms.
Chapt. 8 Students learn food and table setting vocabulary, "almorzar", and 200-100,000. Students learn o→ue present tense stem changing verbs, distinguish between the use of "ser" and estar" and additional "tener" idioms.
Chapt. 9 Student learn additional city building and clothing vocabulary, demonstrative adjectives, and "costar". Students learn the use of "ser + de + material/pattern" and "más + adjective + que" and "menos + adjective + que" and "tan + adjective + como," and demonstrative adjectives.
Chapt. 10 Students learn holidays, party preparation vocabulary, how to reference time in the part, and verbs that use indirect pronouns. Students learn, present progressive, informal commands, preterite tense of regular "ar" verbs, and direct object pronouns "lo" and "la".
