Riverview Update on COVID-19 Reopening Plan

January 15, 2021

January 15, 2021

Dear Riverview Community:

As a follow-up to the communication and information provided to our parents, students, staff, and families on Friday, January 8, 2021, we wanted to share additional updates and information as we continue working through the steps of the Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan.

In this update, we will provide access to an updated Frequently Asked Questions document, which answers many of the questions we have received in the last few days, as well as providing links to additional information previously published.

QUESTIONNAIRE - DEADLINE EXTENDED

To provide more time for families to consider their return to In-Person Learning or remain with Remote Learning, we have extended the deadline of the family questionnaire through Monday evening. Questionnaires must now be completed by Monday, January 18, 2021.

Please click below to access the family questionnaire. Note that we will be sending an additional questionnaire to Secondary families, as our tentative plan for secondary school schedules becomes more clear.

Family Questionnaire for In-Person and Remote Learning

Some families have indicated difficulty in accessing the family questionnaire in Spanish. A Spanish-language questionnaire link is provided below:

Cuestionario familiar para el aprendizaje presencial y remoto

Completing this questionnaire is extremely important, as it is used to build transportation routes and determine class rosters for the return to school, tentatively scheduled to begin on February 1, 2021, for K-1 students.

UPDATED FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS | RIVERVIEW COVID-19 REOPENING PLAN

On Friday, January 8, 2021, the revised Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan was published. This included sharing information, and outlining procedures and protocols for returning students to on-site/in-person learning.

After receiving community and staff input through various communication channels, an updated Frequently Asked Questions document is now available.

The updated Frequently Asked Questions document is also available in Spanish by clicking the link below.

SECONDARY (MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL) UPDATE

In the coming days and weeks, we will be visiting middle school and high school locations which have successfully reopened their campuses for in-person/on-site learning. This will be similar to the site visits and conversations we have had with elementary schools around the region, who have been successful in bringing students and staff back to In-Person Learning safely.

The information we gather from these visits, in addition to the ongoing work of the Riverview Reopening Advisory Committee, has, and will continue to play a significant role in creating our Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan.

I am inspired on a daily basis by what our students, teachers, support staff, families, and our Community is doing to make everything work in an environment that no one expected a year ago. We will get through this with excellent communication and working together collaboratively to prioritize the health and safety of everyone involved.

Sincerely,
Dr. Anthony L. Smith
Superintendent

JANUARY 8, 2021

We are excited to be getting closer to bringing students back to this school year. We have been participating in school visitations at the elementary level and will be continuing forward with visits at the secondary level over the next few weeks.

As stated in Monday’s communication, today we are sharing next steps of the Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan for the Riverview School District (RSD). This bulletin will include the following:

  1. Background
  2. Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan
  3. Parent Questionnaire for Elementary and Secondary Families
  4. RSD Community Reopening Guide

Background
This communication lays the foundation for reopening schools, using and expanding upon our original phased-in approach, shared at the beginning of the school year, and updated frequently through the Engage - Riverview 407 website (https://www.engage.rsd407.org/). We have continued to incorporate information and feedback from the Governor’s Office; Washington State Department of Health; OSPI; Public Health - Seattle & King County; RSD School Board; RSD Administrative Team, including all building administrators; the Riverview Reopening Advisory Committee; Staff, Parent, and Student input through numerous channels; and our Labor Partners.

Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan

We have worked together and followed recommendations from the entities above, with Public Health - Seattle & King County as our guiding light, to set a date for reopening K-1 (Plan B/Phase 2) on Monday, February 1, 2021. We are using the process of research (learning from schools nationally that have reopened), best practice (team visits to schools in the state of Washington that have reopened), and applicability to our setting (what works best in our local setting) in our Reopening Plan. This has been completed at the elementary level and has begun at the secondary level. To properly inform all stakeholders on a tentative plan after K-1, we have scheduled each phase to occur approximately two weeks apart:

Plan/Phase - Grade Levels

Date of Implementation

Plan A/Phase 1: PreK - Age 21 Targeted Groups

Tuesday, September 1, 2020

Plan B/Phase 2: K-1

Monday, February 1, 2021

Plan B/Phase 3: 2-3

Tuesday, February 16, 2021

Plan B/Phase 4: 4-5

Monday, March 1, 2021

Plan B/Phase 5: 6-8

Monday, March 15, 2021

Plan B/Phase 6: 9-12

Monday, March 29, 2021

Plan C/Phase 7: PreK - Age 21 Normal Operations

To Be Determined

Parent Questionnaire for Elementary and Secondary Families - Response Needed By January 15, 2021

CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE

Riverview School District is planning a phased-in approach for the return of students to buildings, following state and local guidelines. Currently, we are in Plan B/Phase 1 of our Riverview COVID-19 Reopening Plan. The questionnaire, linked below, is a crucial component to this ongoing process.

Please note that families, with multiple students, only need to complete one questionnaire. As you answer questions, you will be asked whether you need to enter another student's information. If you have more student information to enter, continue answering a set of questions for each child - until the questionnaire is complete.

To see the current Phases for returning students to on-site learning, please click below:
https://www.engage.rsd407.org/reopening21phases

To assist families with completing the questionnaire, please make sure you review the revised RSD Community Reopening Guide, which is now available on the Engage - Riverview 407 website.
https://www.engage.rsd407.org/reopening21

To determine next steps, we need to know which students will be returning to on-site learning, and which students will opt to remain in/continue with a Remote Learning model. Please complete the questionnaire to let us know if:

  • Your student(s) will be returning to school, or
  • Your student(s) will continue in Remote Learning.

Completing this questionnaire is of major significance, as we determine not just on-site learning and Remote Learning needs, but also requirements of our Transportation Department, Food Services team, and other services and operational necessities related to the return of students on-site.

Families will be committing to this decision through the end of the school year, as the Plans and Phases are designed to extend through the last day of the 2020-2021 school year.

***Please note that students may be reassigned to a different teacher in this process based on staff and student/family questionnaire results.***

RSD Community Reopening Guide

The RSD Community Reopening Guide specifies guidelines for returning to school and is now available on the Engage - Riverview 407 website. Our schools and programs have created Safety Health Plans (SHPs) that are much more specific to staff and on-site operations. The school and program SHPs are available at each building or program and master copies are retained at the Central Office.

Thank you for your hard work as we continue to bring students back to our school.

Sincerely,

Dr. Anthony L. Smith
Superintendent
Riverview School District
