21 Students Qualify for PTSA State Reflections Art Competition, Every Riverview School Represented!
Each year, hundreds of Riverview students compete in the annual PTA Reflections arts competition, crafting a diverse and innovative series of art pieces tied together by a common theme. This year, students submitted work inspired by the theme “Within Reach” for consideration, initially at the individual school level, and, if earning a qualifying score from judges, at the district-level competition.
On January 5, 2018, the Riverview PTSA Council, in coordination with program sponsors, Olympic Ribbon, EF Prints, and the Riverview School District, hosted the Council Reflections Gala, recognizing all district-level competitors and announcing the 21 students who received finalist ribbons. For those 21 students, they will advance to the state-level Reflections event this coming spring, representing every school site in the district.
Students created art in the categories of Dance, Film, Literature, Music, Photography, and Visual Arts – both in 2D and 3D categories. In the fall, committee chairs at each school utilized community members and local experts to evaluate and score the student submissions. Once scores were tabulated, winners from each school site advanced to the district competition. This year, nearly 70 pieces were considered for the district-level competition.
The National PTA Reflections program is PTA's cornerstone arts program. It was developed in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson, a PTA president from Colorado. Anderson’s vision was to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves in a variety of unique and distinctive ways. Each year, across the nation, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the specific year's theme to life. For the 2017-18 competition, 3D Visual Arts was offered in the Reflections program for the first time.
The names of the state finalists from the Riverview School District are listed below. Congratulations to all the students who participated and received recognition in this year's Reflections competition.
