Cedarcrest AP Program Success
AP Calculus Exam Pass Rate at 100% For Fifth Straight Year!
Cedarcrest High School is proud to announce the results from the 2005 administration of the Advanced Placement Program Exams. The results reflect incredible efforts of the AP students and staff at Cedarcrest. Over the past few years, the overall scores of the exams have been at a very high level, and this year is no exception.
Approximately one million students took the AP Exams in May 2005 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. AP Exams are assigned the following scores after assessed by the College Board: 5 - Extremely Well Qualified, 4 - Well Qualified, 3 - Qualified, 2 - Possible Qualified, 1 - No Recommendation. With this scale, a score of 3 or better is generally considered "passing" and is often acceptable for college credit, advanced placement, or both once these students attend a post-secondary school.
Of the 51 Exams taken at Cedarcrest in 2005, 42 of them earned a score of 3 or better. This is an overall pass rate in all programs of 82%. The three major program offerings at Cedarcrest are English, Biology, and Calculus. The English AP Program saw 14 of 17 students (82%) earn a passing grade. 11 students were enrolled in the Biology program and 9 of those students (82%) earned a passing grade.
Most significant of the AP successes at Cedarcrest has been the Calculus program. In 2005, all 18 of the students enrolled in the class received a passing score for 100% pass rate. Additionally, eight of the students received the highest possible score of 5. While this is a great achievement in it's own right, it is also the 5th consecutive year that 100% of the enrolled students have passed the difficult exam. This is a result of the immense effort put forth by both the students and their teacher, Ms. McBride. Since the 1997 inception of the program 81.5% of the 126 students have earned scores of 3 or better, with 30.1% earning the highest possible score of 5.
2005 AP Scholar Awards
Five students from Cedarcrest High School have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams. About 18 percent of the more than one million high school students in almost 15,000 secondary schools worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.
Two students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award in 2005 by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. Three other students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of 3 or higher.
Congratulations to these students on their remarkable achievements. Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement, or both based on successful performance on the AP Exams. Success on these exams, and the programs in which they were involved, has given these Cedarcrest students a significant advantage as they begin their post-secondary education.
