Selim Uzuner is King County "Earth Hero"

Tolt Middle School custodian, Selim Uzuner (shown here with King County Executive Ron Sims), was recently honored by King County as an "Earth Hero at School" for his "outstanding example of creative and effective environmental stewardship" in promoting recycling in the Riverview School District. Selim
and 17 others were presented awards on May 4th at the fifth annual "Earth Heroes at Schools" ceremony at the Mercer View Community Center on Mercer Island.
The Earth Heroes program was established in 2001 to honor environmental work by teachers, students, staff members and volunteers at local schools. The goal is to recognize model efforts that can be adopted by other schools and organizations.
As King County's "Earth Hero" proclamation to Selim stated:
- Selim has successfully led the entire Riverview School District in recycling for 10 years
- He was instrumental in having Tolt Middle School designated as a King County Green School by providing contributions to the school's efforts in energy conservation, environmental purchasing, and with environmental curriculum.
Selim is "committed to teaching all of us the value of respecting and protecting our natural environment" and should be commended for his "commitment to ensuring a lasting legacy for future generations".
