Cedarcrest Students Earn High Scores at Vocal Solo / Ensemble Contest

By: Leanne Christensen, RSD

Cedarcrest High School Seniors, Ellen Washburn (left) and Gabriela Toledano (right) both earned superior scores at the most recent Vocal Solo Ensemble Contest held at Liberty Lake High School on Saturday, January 24th.

The solo/ensemble contests are held as a way of providing student musicians an opportunity to perform a solo or an ensemble in front of an adjudicator and a limited audience. After their performance students receive constructive comments, in both written and spoken form. This contest serves as the regional qualifying event for the State Solo/Ensemble Contest which is held every Spring in Ellensburg Washington.

Gabriela has been performing in this contest since her freshman year at CHS. She is passionate and serious about her singing, and will be focusing her college studies on music as well. Ellen has participated in the contest since her sophomore year at CHS. She truly enjoys singing and looks forward to including both theater and music in her college studies.

When asked about their experience in the Cedarcrest Music Department, both girls shared their great appreciation for Music Director/Teacher, Ryan Lewis. They affirmed that his "passion and dedication to teaching is amazing, and that he makes their studies, class time and performances extremely enjoyable."

Congratulations Gabriela and Ellen!
