Emergent Issues Committee Update
October 1, 2004
As part of the Riverview School District Strategic Plan, an "Emergent Issues Committee" was established last October. The committee was formed so an objective body of stakeholders could be called upon to provide recommendations to the school board concerning impending emergent issues. An emergent issue is one that could have a significant impact, positive or negative to the school district. The decision to refer an emergent issue to the committee is dictated by the school board.
No emergent issues were referred to the Emergent Issues Committee during the 2003-2004 school year. When asked about the lack of referrals, the chair of the committee, Dr. Anthony Smith stated that, "it likely meant that it was a relatively quiet year in terms of system-wide issues that needed the committee's services." Smith also shared that he was scheduling a second training for the Emergent Issues Committee so the members would be able to efficiently provide the school board with recommendations on a course of action should an issue arise. Last year's committee included administrators, teachers, classified employees, parents, and community members.
