REF Announces 2009 Grant Awards

REF Board Announces 2009 Grants to the Riverview School Board
On January 27th the Riverview Education Foundation presented its newest grant awards to the Riverview School District. Twenty-four grants were awarded, totaling $27,402. REF grants provide funding for a wide assortment of programs, materials and equipment that enhance the educational opportunities of students in Riverview schools.
Some of this year's grants include:
- Books for a "Buddy Reading" program at Stillwater Elementary
- Graphing calculators for math classes at Tolt
- Uniforms for the Cedarcrest High School Marching Band
- Materials for a "Speed Stacking" program for the PE department at Cherry Valley Elementary
- Science books, listening centers, and books for accelerated readers for Carnation Elementary
- Software to help District special education students communicate more effectively within a classroom setting.
In addition, REF is also helping to fund the purchase of 6 interactive whiteboards ("ActivBoards") for schools in the Riverview School District. The Riverview Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that has given over $243,000 to the Riverview School District since the Foundation's inception in 1991.
REF grants are funded entirely by donations and from money raised at special events such as the REF Golf Classic, the "Evening for Education" Dinner Auction, and the "REF Runs for Riverview" Fun Run. You can participate in REF's next fun event by attending this year's Dinner Auction on March 28th, 2009. Tickets are $38/pp or $75/couple. All proceeds will be used to fund next year's education grants.
The Foundation thanks all the donors, businesses, and volunteers whose support and dedication made these grants possible. For a full listing of this year's grants and to find out how you can help REF support Riverview Schools, visit www.REFweb.org .
