SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM 2013

Middle School Classes

 

July 1 – July 25, 2013

 

 

Summer school is open to existing 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who want to improve their academic performance in math and/or reading.  Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement for admittance and participation in all classes. Students are required to attend all class sessions and complete assignments to be eligible for a passing grade.  NOTE: Students in 8th grade who need to make up Washington State History may register for that course.  Please see the Social Studies course description in the High School section.

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION (Grades 6-8):

Dates: July 1 - July 25, Monday-Thursday (4 week session)

Location: Tolt Middle School

Room: Meet in the breezeway by the main office on the first day of class

Session Fee: None

Transportation: Yes.  See below for detailed information.

 

 

MATH INSTRUCTION CLASSES (Grades 6-8):

Time:  8:30-10:00 AM (Grades 7 & 8) - or - 10:00-11:30 AM (Grade 6)

Teacher: Matt LaBrie

 

These classes will provide math instruction designed to prepare students for meeting math standards on state assessments.  Students will be actively engaged in math lessons that use problem solving skills, mathematical concepts, and reasoning skills.  Students need to come prepared to the first day of class by bringing paper and pencil(s).

 

 

READING INSTRUCTION CLASSES (Grades 6-8):

Time: 8:30-10:00 AM (Grade 6) - or - 10:00-11:30 AM (Grades 7 & 8)

Teacher: Matt Stewart

 

These classes will provide reading instruction designed to prepare students for meeting reading standards on state assessments. Students will be involved in lessons that focus on reading comprehension.  Students need to come prepared to the first day of class by bringing paper and pencil(s).

 

 

 

 

TRANSPORTATION:

 

Transportation is provided this year to/from Tolt Middle School and Carnation Elementary.  Please have your student at the appropriate location by the pick-up time below in order to arrive at Tolt Middle School by 8:30 AM and Carnation Elementary by 8:45 AM.  The drop off times are approximate times that students will return to each location following dismissal at 11:30 AM.  Students attending classes at Tolt Middle School that are riding the bus must attend both the math and reading classes.  Students attending only one class must have their own transportation to and from Tolt Middle School.   Students will not be permitted to wait on campus while classes are in session.
