Technology in the Riverview School District

Year End Report for the 2007-2008 School Year

6/12/2008

The technology department in the Riverview School District has had another busy and productive year as we complete Year 2 of the current 4 Year Technology Levy.

This Year's Highlights

  1. Installed 7 new computer labs district wide, including 3 new labs at CHS (a total of 210 new computers in all).

  2. Put in a 9 computer “mini-lab” at Mark Klune's “Gates Foundation” classroom at Tolt Middle School, installed a new “3D Printer” at CHS, a phone system upgrade at DO, a new, more reliable wireless system at TMS, and 4 new “Active Boards” at CHS, SW, and soon, ERMA (3 additional boards). [Note: The Active Boards were provided by various district grants].

  3. Our district “Tech Trainers” taught 20 tech classes to district staff with 128 total participants.

  4. This was our first year for the 2 new “Technology Integration Specialists”, Karen Mayfield (Elementary) and Karen Hough (Secondary). They worked with students and classroom teachers across all levels to facilitate the use of technology as a curriculum tool, both in the computer labs and in classrooms. In addition they involved 99 “Tech Kids” to provide “tech support” for staff and students in the elementary computer labs throughout the district.

  5. The Tech Department successfully completed 792 “Help Desk” requests for computer related issues (4.4 “tickets” completed, on average, each day of the school year).

Plans for Next Year

  1. A new Fiber Network will be completed, connecting each district campus and greatly increasing our district bandwidth.

  2. This summer we will install a new intercom system at Carnation Elementary and upgrade the internal video system at Cedarcrest.

  3. Next school year will see the installation of “Presentation Stations” in classrooms at Cedarcrest and Tolt (elementary schools will receive them the following year). Each Presentation Station will have a laptop and a document camera, connected to a mounted LCD projector.

  4. Additional projects will include the installation of new video recording equipment at CHS, new computers for Title I, Special Ed. and ELL programs, an upgrade of one of the Voc labs at CHS, and additional digital copiers.

  5. Staff training will continue with our 2 Tech Integration Specialists and with our tech classes, along with continued tech support.
